Intro
3B Docs was built with Version Control baked right in its core. Every time you save a document, we will create a snapshot of the entire document in that point in time. You can then use the Revision History side panel to review changes and rewind to a specific version.
Previewing Previous Versions
You can access the revision histories for a document by navigating to the "Preview" button in the editor. A side panel will open that will show you all previous revisions of the document with any reasons for the revision as the label of the actual revision record.
When you click on a previous version, the document will be rendered in read-only mode to prevent you from making any changes to an old version. If you want to adopt the selected version, just click on the button "Rewind".
Distributing Templates with Specific Version
You can use the Template Document Publisher to obtain a link to a document, however by design, that link will always present the latest version of the document. You can override this behaviour by manually setting the "versionId" URL parameter to the generated link to ensure that once the template is distributed, invitees will always see the generated document at the time of publishing and no new changes will be reflected.
Document Traces
Once a document viewed (rendered on screen), we will record the ContentVersion's Version Id in the field Data Version ID in the generated document trace record. This is important, because we can review exactly which version of the template was viewed/downloaded/signed.
